The Core Unit supports department members in routine work and administrative issues. This includes the management of the large and increasingly complex mouse colonies of genetically engineered mice, the genotyping of the mice, and the shipment of our mouse models to other laboratories worldwide. To this end, we have developed custom made databases to organize the mouse colonies and lab supplies.
We also support lab members in tissue preparation and histology including sectioning, staining and microscopic analysis. Quantification of biological Alzheimer Markers in cerebrospinal fluid and blood is done using a highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence based multiplex immunoassay, a technique similar to conventional ELISA.To foster the translational aspect of our department we perform such biological fluid measurements in an identical way in mouse models and patients. We are currently also part of an international quality control program for CSF biomarkers in Alzheimer´s disease.
