Federal Minister of Health Gröhe and State Secretary Widmann-Mauz visit the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research

On August 30, 2017, the Federal Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe and his Parliamentary Secretary of State Annette Widmann-Mauz came to see the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research during a visit at the University Hospital Tübingen.

Starting at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), the neurosciences were the focus of the visit. At the Hertie Institute, Dr. Winfried Ilg and PD Dr. Matthis Synofzik informed the visitors how video games may improve movement disorders in ataxia patients. The neuroscientists measure the progress by means of video recordings, which allow a detailed analysis of the movements in three-dimensional space. Afterwards, PD Dr. Daniel Weiss presented the deep brain stimulation as a method of treatment in Parkinson’s Disease. At the end of the visit, Gröhe and Widmann-Mauz took a look into the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Dr. Ghazaleh Tabatabai to learn more about new developments in the targeted therapy of brain tumors.
